An epic number of students worldwide are being impacted by adverse childhood experiences. English language learners may experience these phenomena as refugees, undocumented citizens, unaccompanied minors, and survivors of war, civil strife, natural disasters, and more. In contrast to looking at “what is absent” in the lives of these students and their families, the presenters introduce instructional and school-wide approaches that acknowledge the many assets they bring.
