Perspectives on Teaching Adults English in the Digital World presents an overview of adult ESL online in the USA, using five students to illustrate a number of important points, and the following chapter focuses on teaching and learning English online, specifically at the tertiary level in the US. The book also presents a clear and concise summary, this time of adult education and workplace English language learning and teaching online in the US.
Dr. Rose goes on to describes social media lessons, tutoring and webinar classes for students learning English online, she highlights the fact that being able to work with students all over the world, at the same time and in real time, from the comfort of her home in the US "is a context unique to the digital age" .
In her conclusion, Dr Rose states: "For language instruction, I strongly believe the personal touch cannot be overstated. Language is meant for communication, and while computers can simulate this interaction, they fall short of producing meaningful 'social and emotional' relationships. My final reflection is to remind myself and you, my reader, that technology is a tool. We are the teachers"
